Sourcing movement is a workshop based on the assumption that there is a unique, creative current that flows through each individual, waiting to be accessed and expressed.
This is a workshop designed to support each individual artist in dipping into this creative current, allowing them to find their authentic self-expression and aerial voice. It is a workshop designed to de-habituate patterns, bringing intention and life to movement and the stillness in between...
We will begin with the concept of release; the release of tension in both body and mind. Starting on the ground we will explore the foundation of release-based movement, leading us into an exploration of intentional tension and the art of contrast. We will then apply these concepts to the aerial equipment, through various exercises (utilizing short choreographies) and improvisational explorations.
Sourcing Movement pulls from somatic studies (including Laban Movement Analysis), dance, Authentic Movement and depth psychology. After this 2-day, introductory workshop, students will have gained a greater range of movement expression, a deepened sense of embodiment, and the ability to sense of the difference between moving and being moved.
This workshop will be held on the following dates: Saturday, February 17th & 24th from 5:00pm-7:00pm
It is preferred that students attend both days. If a student is able to attend only one of the two days, they must contact Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if it is possible.
If you book this workshop before January 1st you will receive $20 off by using promo code Source! (discount will only be applied to full series)
- Students must have basic aerial skills on their given apparatus and feel comfortable repeating a chosen (simple) choreography for at least four minutes.
- Emailing Shannon Gray with your top two choices for apparatus, or with any questions, at email@example.com
This workshop works to expand creative movement, expression, and the relationship we carry with our bodies, so dancers should be prepared to possibly encounter elements of vulnerability and comfort edge-pushing.
*All payments are non-refundable, but may be converted into Aerial Artique account credit (minus a $15 processing fee) if cancellation is received more than 72 hours before workshop.
